About Me

My name is Betsy Poos. I am an Anusara-Inspired yoga teacher, RYT and co-owner of Capitol Hill Yoga. My hatha yoga classes combine joyful movement with breath, alignment and compassion. I have drop-in based classes at Capitol Hill Yoga and enjoy bringing greater health and happiness into my students' lives.

I came to yoga in 1999 out of a love for dance and movement. It was love at first svasana, and I knew yoga would be a lifelong journey after a transforming back bending class. I began teaching yoga in 2005 after completing the 200-hour Yoga Alliance approved Living Yoga Program.

In 2007 I took my first Anusara Yoga class with Sianna Sherman and have over 600 hours of study with Certified Anusara Yoga Teachers, including the Anusara Immersion and Teacher Training at Willow Street Yoga Center. I have a blast infusing my playful practice and teachings with this heart celebrating yoga that allows our intrinsic goodness to rain down. All my gratitude to my teachers - John Friend, Suzie Hurley, Kate Miller and Elizabeth Goodman.

I am also delighted to share yoga with our mommas to be. Pregnancy is a time of transformation, bliss and yes some pain. Trained in the The Barnes Yoga for Two Method my prenatal classes empower women to ride the waves of grace.

My abilities as a teacher have also been shaped by my young life as a dancer and my professional life in politics. From the age of three and leading up to my experience as a member of the University of Texas pom squad I gained grace and control in dance. I hold a BA in Government that guided my career working alongside elected officials and political operatives. These elements produce my approach to yoga - one that is articulate, balanced, joyful, and open to everyone.

When not at the yoga studio you'll find me and my husband Jason totally loving on our daughter, walking our boston terrier, or biking about Capitol Hill.
